그곳을 향해 걸어간다. 아스팔트길은 시멘트 길로, 또 자갈길로 바뀐다. 그리고 어느새 갯벌이다. 바다 너머로 먼 육지가 희미하다. 발아래 더 이상 길이 없다. 시간의 밀물은 자꾸만 나를 물러서게 하고 건너지 못하는 바다는 더욱 넓어진다. 머뭇거리며 돌아서다 발을 적시고 만다. 나는 길을 가늠한다. 길은 언제나 시작과 끝이 없었고 그 끝은 또한 시작이기도 했었다. 여기는 길의 끝이 아니다. - - - * A road to beyond I walk toward it. 1. 숲 속에 들어서다 낯선 길은 두려움이다. 인적이 없는 숲은 두려움과 동시에 외로움이다. 낮은 억새의 바람소리도 으르렁 거리는 신음소리처럼 들린다. 밝은 햇살은 조금도 위안이 되지 않는다. 오히려 바람과 어른거리는 그림자 때문에 더욱 혼란스럽기만 하다. - - - 1. Wandering in the woods An unfamiliar path is fear. The uninhabited woods is fearful and lonely. The low wind in the reeds sounds like a groan. The bright sunlight is not comforting at all. 그날, 이 연못을 거닐며 저를 향한 마음이 이 꽃과 같다고 말씀하셨지만 이내 지는 꽃을 보며 못내 서운했었습니다. 헤아리지도 못할 세월들이 지나며 궁궐을 받치던 돌조차 바람에 흩어졌지만 그 꽃은 여전히 이렇게 피어 있습니다. 돌도 바람도 이 여린 꽃잎보다 약한 것이었습니다. 꽃잎에 얹어둔 한마디 언약이 세월을 넘어 이곳에 있습니다. - - - * Promise of that day That day, as we walked along this pond, you told me that your heart for me is like this flower. 삶에서 소중한 것들은 모두 무료였다. 찬찬히 보니, 그것들은 사람이 만든 돈으로 지불할 필요가 없는 것이었다. 거래의 조건은 간단했다. 물질은 물질로, 비물질은 비물질로... 그러니, 육체의 행복은 육체를 움직여서, 마음의 행복은 마음을 움직여 지불한다. 하지만 실제로는, 대부분의 것들이 무료였다. 소중한 것과 그에 대한 지불은 서로 다른 것이었다. - - - * Life is free Everything precious in life was free. When viewed accurately, They did not have to be paid with man-made money. The terms of the deal were simple.
