The Landscape Designer

"The Landscape Designer" is a short film about the hand-drawn design process of San Diego based draftsman, Raymond Shaw. The film opens on the lush property where the artist lives and works, anchoring his home’s historic roots with an early black and white photograph of his homes original facade. While touring Shaw’s gardens and design studio, his voice sheds light on the inspiration behind his meticulous architectural renderings. He recounts early influences of woodworking, casting, and sculpting with his father, stating: “What’s unique about the handmade process is that it involves the artist,” as Shaw concludes, “Design is having a pencil in your hand. And if you take that away from the process, for me, I don’t think I would enjoy the ride as much.”
