나는 어디서 왔을까... 내가 해외에 있을 때 외국인으로부터 가끔씩 듣는 질문이 있다. "Where are you from?" 그저 입버릇처럼 대답한다. "I'm from Korea" 국내에서 누군가 그리 물으면 내가 태어나고 자란 곳을 이야기할 것이다. 부모님이 내게 물으신다면 당신들로부터 왔다고 할 것이다. 내가 나에게 "어디로부터 왔나?"라고 묻게 된다면... 뭐라고 대답해야 할까? 글쎄 나는 어디로부터 왔던 걸까? - - - * People 5 (Finding Someone Among People) Where do I come from... 모든 색을 채우면 흰색이다. 모든 색을 비워도 흰색이다. 흰색은 색이 아니다. 그저 모든 색이 함께 있을 뿐이다. 그것은 내가 바라보면 존재한다. 보지 않을지라도 존재한다. 채움과 비움은 서로 반대말이지만 떄로는 같은 의미를 지닌다. - - - * Words of winter light It is white when all colors are filled. 숲 속에 들어서다 (Wandering in the woods)

1. 숲 속에 들어서다 낯선 길은 두려움이다. 인적이 없는 숲은 두려움과 동시에 외로움이다. 낮은 억새의 바람소리도 으르렁 거리는 신음소리처럼 들린다. 밝은 햇살은 조금도 위안이 되지 않는다. 오히려 바람과 어른거리는 그림자 때문에 더욱 혼란스럽기만 하다. - - - 1. 그날, 이 연못을 거닐며 저를 향한 마음이 이 꽃과 같다고 말씀하셨지만 이내 지는 꽃을 보며 못내 서운했었습니다. 헤아리지도 못할 세월들이 지나며 궁궐을 받치던 돌조차 바람에 흩어졌지만 그 꽃은 여전히 이렇게 피어 있습니다. 돌도 바람도 이 여린 꽃잎보다 약한 것이었습니다. 꽃잎에 얹어둔 한마디 언약이 세월을 넘어 이곳에 있습니다. - - - * Promise of that day That day, as we walked along this pond, you told me that your heart for me is like this flower. 그는 천하를 주유하기 시작했다. 그렇게 세상을 바라보며 지내다 보니 그간 수행했던 무예와 도가 무엇이었는지도 가물거렸다. 그는 오히려 그것이 좋았다. 세월이 지날수록 그는 혼자 생각하고 대화하는 것에 익숙해졌다. 그는 세상을 바라보고 있었지만 왠지 자신의 마음 깊은 내면을 보고 있는 느낌이었다.
